Are We Following Principles or a Person?
In Part One of this blog series, I shared how it’s completely abnormal for people to not be communicating with and hearing from God on a moment-by-moment basis. Click here to check it out, if you haven’t already.
In Part Two, I’ll continue to tear down misconceptions and unpack the truth…
We are never disconnected from God!
In my own personal experience growing up in a traditional church, I never saw miracles. We said we believed in them; we just never saw them.
In addition, we were not taught how to use our spiritual eyes and ears to communicate with God for ourselves. Instead we were taught to avoid spiritual experiences out of fear that we might be “deceived.”
But in reality, avoiding spiritual experiences out of fear of deception gives deception more power than God. Plus, it’s completely unscriptural.
The Bible itself is a written account of the miracles that people experienced in their relationship with God and was only written because people could hear from God.
Furthermore, if you’re living without being able to communicate with God, there’s a good chance you’re already deceived. In reality it’s a huge deception that you are supposed to be living separated from God like that.
But unfortunately, this is one of the few things that hasn’t changed too much since my childhood. A large majority of people are still living disconnected-from-God, powerless lives—oblivious to or even worse, afraid of the Spirit realm.
They aren’t hearing the voice of God when they need to hear it and aren’t living with enlightened spiritual eyes, discerning things, or seeing into the unseen realm. So many by default, seek divine guidance from biblical principles, others seek divine guidance from psychics or new age practices, and others live in the realm of natural wisdom only.
Let’s all say it together, “This is not okay!”
Of course I’m not saying that seeking wisdom from the Bible is wrong. However, there is problem when we act like the Trinity is the Father, Son, and Holy Bible instead of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Following principles, biblical or not, rather than a person is religion personified. It makes being a Christian no different from people who follow good life principles or moral rules. It makes Christianity just like every other religion that follows wise teachers and various wisdom books, or like people who practice new age spirituality and operate in universally true, spiritual principles without acknowledging who God revealed himself to be through Jesus Christ.
So what’s the alternative you ask? Recognizing that we have access to more!
“God has united you with Christ Jesus. For our benefit God made him to be wisdom itself…” – 1 Corinthians 1:30 (emphasis mine)
This scripture really expounds my point. Wisdom isn’t just a compilation of good principles to live by; it’s a person! Jesus Christ is not just a man who possessed wisdom—He is Wisdom. Furthermore, He’s not far away. We have been united to Him forever!
This is not only good news, it’s foundationally life transforming.
Think about it, we are united with Jesus Christ. We have been literally baptized into His person (Galatians 3:27). We are one with Wisdom itself. We don’t have to just read wisdom principles; we can hear Wisdom speak to us, even while we’re reading wisdom principles. Even better we can hear Wisdom speak to us moment by moment as we walk through our daily lives! We have access to Wisdom’s mind, opinions, and emotions from the inside out. We are living with “inside information.” We can get real-time advice when we need it. We don’t have to do anything to get it either—except tune in. We don’t have to jump through hoops or do religious calisthenics. It’s an accomplished fact. We are united with Christ!
In the next part of this 3-part blog, I’ll dive into more about how our union with God changes everything. It forms a whole new foundation for living and makes communicating with God and experiencing Him easy as pie!
Mucho bliss,
